Document-document relationship

Last updated: July 20, 2023
Documents can be related to one another in a hierarchical parent-component relationship. You can define this relationship as follows: the component document, which also exists as a stand-alone entity, is part of the parent document (for example, where a circuit diagram is also used in a maintenance manual).

Document-document relationships enable you to create document trees, and provide trace ability on document references.

AssetWise warns you when a parent or component document is identified as being affected by change of all the related parents and components during the change effects analysis.

When a document has been defined with components in a Contained In relationship, the following rules apply:
  • The parent document cannot be approved unless the component documents are also approved.
  • When a component document is under change, the parent document will also be under change.
  • When a component document's revision is stepped, the parent document's revision must also be stepped.
